Big Ten Basketball Roundup

The Big Ten Race believe it or not, has gotten crazier. After Ohio States win at Wisconsin last Saturday, it seemed the Buckeyes had a clear path to the Big Ten title. The path for the Buckeyes just became a lot harder. Jared Sullinger recorded a triple double you don’t want (17 points, 16 points and 10 turnovers) in #3 Ohio State’s loss at the hands of #12 Michigan State. With the Big Ten season winding down, I’ll tell you who has the best chances to take home the Big Ten crown.

1. Michigan State

 (19-5, 9-3 Big Ten)

The Spartans are playing the Big Ten’s best basketball as of now. Their defense held Ohio State, the nations 10th best shooting team, to 48 points. Senior Draymond Green has his team focused and ready to win a Big Ten title. MSU doesn’t have a cake walk to the B1G title, though. They still have to host games against Wisconsin and Ohio State. They also have to travel to Indiana, Purdue and Minnesota. If the Spartans keep up their play, there’s no reason they shouldn’t win the Big Ten Title. I see this team going deep in the tournament.

(21-3, 9-3 Big Ten)

The Buckeyes have some work to do. In my mind, they’re the most talented team in the Big Ten. They just simply didn’t come to play against the Spartans. OSU will need a big push, as they face Michigan, Michigan State, and Minnesota on the road. They also host Wisconsin and Illinois. Jared Sullinger, arguably the nations best player, will have to lead his team to the B1G We’ll see what the Buckeyes are made up as they face a challenging stretch.

3. Wisconsin

(19-6, 8-4 Big Ten)

The Badgers have been a very interesting team this year, plagued by bad shooting. It seems they’ve developed the motto “live by the three, die by the three”. Surprisingly, Wisconsin is only a game out of 1st place in the Big Ten. If the Badgers want to win this title, they’ll have to get it done on the road. Wisconsin is currently on a 4 game road winning streak. Thursdays matchup at Michigan State is a must win. Lose, and the Badgers are likely out of the B1G title race. That’s as far as I’ll go, but obviously, the Badgers have some work to do.

4. Michigan

(18-7, 8-4 Big Ten)

After a hot start in Big Ten league play, the Wolverines have shown that they can’t stay consistent. They are 5-4 in their last 9 games, including a bad loss to Iowa. Michigan does have a fairly easy schedule from here on out, with only a few tough ones against Ohio State and Illinois x2. I think the Wolverines will have to win out to take the B1G title.

I’m only including 4 teams this week because these are the teams who even have a shot to win it. Indiana would be 5th with a 7-6 Big Ten Record, and they won’t win it.

The Big Ten comes down to these four teams, anyone could win it. We could be in for a historic finish. Stars are going to shine and who ever wants it most will win it.
