Big Ten Tournament Preview

Thursday, March 8th brings us the first day of Big Ten tournament action. The tournament will take place at the new and improved Banker Life Fieldhouse (formerly Conseco Field House). With a new enviornment, a brand new conference image, and a very deep conference, it should be a very exciting tournament.

With a three way tie between Michigan State, Michigan and Ohio State for the regular season crown it’s hard to say who’s the favorite. The conference is easily as deep as it’s ever been, I wouldn’t be surprised with any upsets or a low seed making a run.

Behind Senior Forward and Big Ten Player of the Year Draymond Green, Michigan State has been playing typical tough, hard nosed Izzo basketball. After a dissapointing loss at home against Ohio State, the Spartans are looking to rebound this weekend and build their case for a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament.

Ohio State, last years Big Ten tournament champions, may have the most momentum coming into the tournament. With the win at Michigan State Sunday, the Buckeyes won their 3rd straight Big Ten regular season title. Thad Matta knows how to win this tournament, and so does his team.

My sleeper is Indiana. The Hoosiers have made huge strides this year behind Co-B1G Freshman of the Year Cody Zeller. They’ve shown they can beat good teams. They’ll have a little more of a home court advantage then other teams with the tournament being held in their home state. I feel like the crowd could be a huge boost for them, especially if they get far in the tourney.
