Our View: Johnson committed to the Badgers back in late July, helping to ease some pressure off the recruiting at cornerback. However, he suffered a high ankle sprain early in his senior season and never really got going. In fact, he ended up needing a screw inserted in his ankle to help repair a ruptured tendon.

That said, what we do see on film is a safety/cornerback with good size who isn’t afraid to play a lot of one-on-one coverage and get in the face of wide receivers. He did play a lot of cornerback in high school, but currently is working more at safety has he gets ready to come to Wisconsin in the summer.

Johnson II has a lot of promise, and given the lack of experience and depth in the secondary, he is going to be needed as soon as he can be ready. Will that ankle injury slow him down or will it be something that strengthens his overall game? Time will tell, but he’s clearly got the skill set to be a quality contributor early in his career if all is well with that knee.
