Chris Petersen rumors fly anytime a big time program has an opening and so it's hard to take just a normal rumor seriously, however multiple outlets are reporting that Petersen will indeed interview for the Badgers football head coaching position. First the Wisconsin State Journal speculated that it would be happening and then earlier on Friday Madison radio station The Big 1070 began reporting that two sources were telling them Petersen would interview with Alvarez on Monday.
Petersen has consistently shot down rumors of him leaving for other jobs in the past and he has deflected questions up until as late as yesterday. He is a hot coaching name because of what he's accomplished at Boise State where he holds an 83-8 record (.912 winning percentage) in his seven seasons with the Broncos. He is the winningest coach in FBS football since he's tenure began in Boise.
What is interesting is this would be a vast departure for Wisconsin as the last two hires have been defensive coordinators in Alvarez and Bielema. Petersen's offense may bit a bit flashier than what Wisconsin runs, but don't mistake that for the fact that he doesn't have the ability to build the offense around a power running game or behind a great offensive line. In fact, Boise State's offensive line allowed just six sacks this season with a less than "mobile" QB behind them.
If you just think of Boise State as some gimmick offense then you haven't been paying attention at all. Does the name Doug Martin ring a bell? He's the ex-Bronco running back that is currently tearing it up in the NFL as a rookie. As a team they had 442 rushing attempts for 2,077 yards, averaging 4.7 yards a carry and had 25 TD's as a team with a whole new QB and running back in that backfield this season.
Of course there's a lot to take a look at and nothing is ever set in stone when it comes to coaching searches, but we do know that Monday will be the first day Alvarez will be conducting interviews and if true getting Petersen to even accept an interview is a huge step to begin with.

Here is as just as good as sourced article on who the next badger coach will be . http://theblueturf.com/2012-articles/december/reliable-sources-mike-hoyt-to-be-named-next-monday-as-wisconsins-head-coach.html
LOL 1200 what every potheads I warned you I told you . Listen if a moron am pot head isn't willing to post such crap on their own tweeter nor wall why in the word would you. Lets be real here With your former coach crying I left to Arkansas because there is no way to win a National championship in the bcs welfare b1g way in the world would Coach leave a program thats actually won BCS games and been in the MNCG conversation vs one that losses welfare trips to the BCS. What you think he was going to feel sorry for your welfare state in your welfare league? give me a break. anyone that took the pot heads word and posted such drivel as I see above is worthy of shaming. Get real source and be responsible . As I told you in emails I would not par take is such BULLSHIT specially when I had real sources to include Chris Petersen that said other wise. Good luck I hope you find some highschool coach as no real winner would take the job.
@DarthProphet Let me know when you can actually put together a proper sentence & then we can talk. I'm sorry you take everything one says about your coach possibly leaving as a personal attack, it's truly a sad way to live life.
As an Idaho resident and big-time Bronco's fan I would hate to see Chris Peterson leave. He's a helluva good coach and a fine individual as well. If I were a Badger's fan I'd be happy to have him! Best of luck to him in whatever path he chooses...
@wiscoinillinois I'm in Springfield. Been here since July. There are a decent amount of Packer fans but zero Badger fans.
This might be a good fit for cp. Boise state is moving to a new conference that is being raided of school who are jumping ship for greener pastures. Boise and San Diego state who is also joining the conference are so out of the geography that this relationship will fizzle in 3 or 4 years. Cp is at a very high point in his career and IMO realizes that this is probably not an ideal situation for him and Boise state. He and Barry Alvarez are a interesting combo that could do great things together. This could be an even better situation for wisconsin and take the program up another level. I think the football minds of these two guys realize they could create something special and it won't take them long to get there.
@Snead76 Exactly my thoughts. If Petersen comes here, it's an upgrade, immediately. There are other coaches out there that could be an upgrade down the road, but Petersen is right away. Also, with how much fun it was to watch some "trick" plays last Saturday, having a coach that isn't afraid at all to go that way could be a lot of fun.
I read on Bleacher Report (I know, I know...) and it was actually an article instead of a slideshow. He brought up a lot of stats, and it basically showed how smart of a coach Petersen is. He plays to his team's strengths and to his opponent's weaknesses.
@swenny916 very true and something we will explore if there's more to these rumors and sources for sure... I just hate to sit here and throw out a bunch of names just because someone mentions them, ya know? Rather deal with facts in regards to these names, I guess.
@andycoppens Makes sense. That's what the comment sections are for!
