The Sconnie Scoop: God Bless America

Happy Independence Day to all of us here in America. It just wouldn't be right to not start this off with the words that gave this great country life:
hen in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.
Sitting here writing this post and reading those words, it's still an awe inspiring piece of writing and it's words still ring true in the hearts of millions of residents to the United States of America.
O.k, so on to the Badger and college sports related news here on the 4th of July.
The folks over at Saturday Edge were kind enough to ask yours truly to help with their B1G Football Breakdown and it got off to a start on Monday as they asked the question "Who will challenge Michigan and Wisconsin as favorites" (remember this is a betting slanted site after all) Yesterday they came back with our Breakout Star picks: hint, I didn't go homer with my picks.

In other guest appearance related news, I was lucky enough to join our friends over at Miners Rush for their "The Rush" podcast to talk a little about the matchup between UTEP and the Badgers, so give it a listen by going here (if it's not up right away, just wait longer, lol).
We're in the middle of the summer, yet nothing is hotter in Badger news than what's goin on off the ice in the NHL. The Wisconsin State Journal's Andy Baggot takes a great look at the success rate of Badgers drafted during the Mike Eave's era, it is quite impressive.
Of course there is no bigger piece of news to hit the college sports world than the word: PLAYOFFS. Here at Bloguin we've got a great national college football site called Crystal Ball Run (full disclosure, I'm a contributing writer there) and it's "The Playoff Era" well, there were two great articles put together yesterday - one on building the perfect team and one on the top ten places to host the new National Championship game. I wouldn't pimp an article if I didn't truly enjoy it personally, regardless of writing for the site or not, so take that for what it's worth.
Finally, we leave you with a simple message: While we hope you enjoy the cookouts, fireworks, and celebrations in store today, may you consider taking some time to learn or read our founding fathers in their own words. Without those men willing to literally risk their lives for freedom we wouldn't be celebrating anything today. Enjoy your day with family and friends and GOD BLESS AMERICA!
