First let's get to the good news of the day and that's the fact that the rankings are here!

Small steps keep being taken in route to the start of college football on Aug. 31st and a giant one was taken today as the USA Today Coaches Poll was released. Wisconsin will enter the season ranked 12th.

Only Michigan ranks higher from the Big Ten, coming in just four places higher than the Badgers at 8th. LSU, Alabama, and USC make up the top three in the opening poll of the season. Alabama took home the most first place votes, but sit second overall because they have 4 fewer points total.

Joining Michigan and Wisconsin in the top 25 from the Big Ten are Michigan State at #13, and Nebraska at #16.

Now on to the major news of the day surrounding the Badgers football program and that's the assualt that happened to Montee Ball early yesterday morning. He did suffer a concussion and it also appears he won't be ready for the start of camp either according to the Wisconsin State Journal.

You may have also heard some TMZ report regarding the Montee (I said MON-TAY) Ball assault  this morning and we're not even going to dignify that speculative reporting with any of the details. Hell, Montee Ball took to twitter to deny any involvement in what was reported - proving once again that you can't believe everything you read on the internet!

I say, let the cops do their job and find out the facts before reporting crap like that, but again we're living in a world were scooping a story beomes more important than actually getting the truth of the matter out there. Stay tuned because it sure sounds like there's more to this story.

more after the jump...

Oh, if you missed it earlier today... the Badgers picked up a 2014 QB commitment and he's a damn good one to get as well.

The award watch list honors keep on coming for Wisconsin and Jared Abbrederis' name is now on one as he's on the Paul Horning Award watch list. The award is handed out college football's most "versitile" player.

Outside of football the Badgers women rowing and lightweight rowing teams announced their 2012-13 schedule and it features quite a few interesting regattas. Things will kick off with the annual Milwaukee River Challenge. They'll head to the Cream City on Sept. 15th to get the season started in what should be a fun event to attend if you are that area.
