Women’s Basketball releases 2013-14 non-conference schedule

One thing is for sure, Bobbie Kelsey isn't afraid of a challenge and that theme continues as she enters her third season at the helm of the program and this could be a pivotal year, especially coming off an injury riddled season that amazingly ended in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten tournament.

This season the Badgers will face seven teams that made the postseason in 2013 and will once again play all three in-state rivals. UW will take on NCAA tournament participants Gonzaga (27-6 in 2012-13) and Green Bay (29-3) and could face a date with Vanderbilt (21-12) at their holiday tournament. WNIT tournament teams Marquette (16-16) and Washington (21-12) are also on the schedule and the Badgers could wind up playing Elon (19-14) and Mercer (20-12) - two teams that competed in the Women's Basketball Invitational.

“We’re happy with the schedule since we’re always looking to challenge ourselves,” said Kelsey in a statement released by the school. “We’re looking forward to playing teams that are comparable to what we’ve done but also challenge ourselves against teams that have gotten to the post season.”

Wisconsin will open the season at home on Nov. 10 against a Drake team that went 11-20 last season. Kelsey's kids will take the show on the road following that contest as the face in-state rival Milwaukee on Nov. 14.

UW will face fellow BCS conference schools Alabama and Boston College (Big Ten/ACC Challenge) during the 12 game non-conference schedule.
