Frank Kaminsky is named Naismith Player of the Year

After coming within seconds of a national championship game last season, expectations were set rather high for the 2014-15 Wisconsin Badgers. Much more so when Frank Kaminsky made the choice to return for his senior season at UW.

On Sunday, the accolades for Kaminsky’s individual play continued to flow in as he was named the winner of the Naismith Award as the best college basketball player in the country.

It was the third such honor for him, joining his accolades from the Associated Press and United States Basketball Writers Association.

That other trophy Kaminsky collected on Sunday night? The NABC (National Association of Basketball Coaches) national player of the year award.

Kaminsky is averaging 18.7 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. He’s also shooting 55.1 percent from the field and 41.2 percent from three-point range, while also shooting 77.8 percent from the free throw line.

He becomes the first player to be named the Naismith Player of the Year out of Wisconsin, and with the Wooden Award left to go, Kaminsky could make it a clean sweep of postseason honors soon.
